It provides for officials who, for some reason—such as lack of a diplomatic passport—cannot qualify for diplomatic visas. As with the diplomatic visa, the official visa is designed to facilitate entry into the United States, but does not carry any privileges or immunities beyond those implicit in the visa classification itself. 9 FAM 41.27 N1.2 Diplomatic Relations Required for Official Visas (TL:VISA-162; 02-24-1997) As with diplomatic visas, consular officers shall submit to the Department visa cases of nationals of countries not having diplomatic relations with the United States. [See 9 FAM 41.26 N1.2.] 9 FAM 41.27 N2 NO FEES FOR DIPLOMATS (TL:VISA-162; 02-24-1997) See 22 CFR 41.107(c).
